St James Community  Hall

The future of St James hall looks a little brighter!

Over the past year the Hall Committee, in conjunction with architects, have produced a three-stage plan for refurbishment, which has been approved by Gloucester City Council.

The estimated cost of the required works is just over £240,000 and as our application for a national lottery grant has unfortunately been turned down, this money will have to be raised by a combination of our organising fund raising events and applying for other grants which may be available.

The reality of the hall situation currently is that with the small funds we have we can only try to get essential and achievable jobs done in the hope that in the very near future we will have enough money to complete the more major stages of the refurbishment.

There are several ideas on the table regarding funding for the hall, including one where the County Council would inject substantial funds towards the refurbishment in return for rent free use of the hall for their current requirements such as school meals etc.

The hall is still open for social event bookings on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and any donations towards the refurbishment fund would be greatly appreciated.

The Latest Progress on The Hall

In July last year, St James hall committee decided to  give the go a head to, carry out the bare essential work, to bring the hall up to an acceptable standard for all the hall users.

The finance of the work will come from the limited donation we have received and rent from the hall users.

I Please to say, in November last year The community pay back scheme commenced essential refurbishment work   in  St James Community Church hall. The Guys are doing a good job and by time you read this report they should have completed the task.

The work was carried out on the weekend only, hence Monday to Friday use of  the hall was not affected.

Other jobs which have been done recently, a deep clean was carried out in the hall back in October A new flat roof was laid to the rear of the hall. New strip lighting which have been welcome by all.

The flooring in the hall will be sanded and re-sealed in the next few weeks.

The hall finance is  reasonable healthy.

The feed back I've  received from the hall users up to date have been very encouraging, every one like what they are seeing. Hopefully when all the work is completed it should make all users of the hall feel positive about the place.
